A tan-to-copper snake with dark, hourglass-shaped crossbands (narrow across the back, wide on the sides), a triangular head and vertical pupils.

Venomous. Its bite is painful and needs medical attention, but is rarely fatal with prompt care.

  • Harmless water and rat snakes rounder pupils, no hourglass bands
